Do you love coffee? Do you want to try the best coffee in the whole of Malaysia?
If so, come to Tenom!
Tenom, a delightful rural town situated in Sabah's unspoiled interior, is home to Mr Foong Choon Sang, the undisputed 'Coffee King', and founder of Tenom Fatt Choi Coffee.
Mr Foong, who established his coffee factory in 1986, is a local legend. Not only does he produce the best coffee in Malaysia - he has had a succession of VIPs beating a path to his door, to sample his renowned Tenom Coffee. Due to its growing popularity, in February 1999 Malaysia's former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed, launched Tenom Fatt Choi Coffee. This initiative offered to the public free sampling of various types of coffee, including Espresso,Cappuccino and Caffe Latte, at the Tenom Fatt Choi Coffee Corner.
In 2004, the factory was opened to public for educational visits and, in 2007, teak-wood cabins were built in the grounds of Mr Foong's teak plantation, providing comfortable accommodation and facilities for visitors who wished to know more about his coffee.
In January 2008, TYK Adventure Tours Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian licensed tour operator, in co-operation with Mr Foong, launched TENOM COFFEE ADVENTURE, a range of exclusive tour packages especially designed for foreign visitors, wishing to learn more about Tenom's world-class coffee, and at the same time experience some of the region's natural attractions.
The basic TENOM COFFEE ADVENTURE package is 2 days and 1 night.
Longer tours, of 3 days/2 nights and 4 days/3 nights offer jungle trekking along the Fatt Choi Rafflesia Trail, Fatt Choi Padas Gorge Trail and Fatt Choi Pre WW2 Bridle Trail, and the opportunity to learn Tai Chi. Mr Foong, is also an International "Tai-Chi" Master, whose expertise is well-known in Malaysia and China.
